Holy Heart Highlanders are the 2026 Confederation Cup Champions! Holy Spirit win the T2 Championship!

What a great weekend for Newfoundland and Labrador High School hockey this weekend with Mount Pearl Senior High hosting 11 teams for their historic Confederation Cup. Represented were all 7 Tier 1 metro league teams together with Marystown, Ascension, PWC, St. Kevin’s and Waterford Valley who all played exceptionally competitive games for the duration of the tournament.

Both the Highlanders and the Huskies won all their games in division and semi-final play earning their space in the final on Sunday at the Paradise Arena.

An exciting, very close game packed with spectators, the Highlanders edged MPSH 5-3 to secure the gold medal and historic Confederation Cup trophy. Two Goals by #15 Yabsley, with #10 Dillon and #18 Russell with one each for Holy Heart. #16 Fleet, #21 O’Keefe and #15 Simmonds scored for MPSH with the score very close at 4-3 with only minutes left. #91 Davis then scored on the empty net to make it 5-3 to secure the win. Player of the game for Holy Heart went to #15 forward Ben Yabsley for his 2 goals and to MPSH to forward #15 AJ Simmonds for his one goal.

In the tier 2 final it was gold for the Falcons and silver for the Clippers.  Holy Spirit played Marystown in a very competitive game and won 4-1 with #22 Thompson, #21 Murray, #11 Thomas McCarthy and #14 Duffett with one a piece. #17 Max McCarthy had the one goal for Marystown. Player of the game for Marystown was forward #17 Max McCarthy and POG for Holy Spirit was goalie #1 Nate Newman.

A huge thanks to Mount Pearl Senior High and all their dedicated volunteers for being the perfect hosts in the planning and running of this excellent annual tournament. It was great to see the games being streamed with a commentator and players and coaches being interviewed by Rogers for later posts. Mount Pearl Senior High are already planning next years Confederation Cup!
